This report presents detailed results obtained in 181 patients with stage 1A and B, IIA and B and IIIA Hodgkin''s disease; in these subgroups the overall 10 year survival and disease-free survival were 77% and 67% respectively. In stage I and II patients (considered together) an adverse influence of systemic symptoms was detected (55% vs. 85% 10 year overall survival - p < 0.05). Bulky mediastinal disease was an adverse prognostic factor both for overall survival (89% of patients with positive mediastinum all stages vs. 72% of patients with bulky mediastinum at 5 years - p > 0.01) and relapse free survival (87% vs. 55% at 3 years - p > 0.01). Four cases of acute non-lymphoblastic leukemia and 3 cases of severe aplastic anemia were observed among patients given combined therapy (radiotherapy plus chemotherapy).
