摘要
A porous membrane has been used for root studies of upland crops but not for crops grown under submerged conditions. A field study was conducted to compare the growth of paddy rice (Oryza sativa L.) with and without root confinement within a porous membrane. Three membrane configurations were compared: (i) a narrow membrane; (ii) a wide membrane; and (iii) a modified wide membrane. Root confinement within membranes reduced all shoot growth and yield parameters compared to soil-grown plants (control). Reductions in shoot growth and yield parameters were usually least for the modified wide membrane and greatest for the narrow membrane.
