HEALTH IN ALL POLICIES. NOTES TO STEP INTO ACTION

Many of the determinants that affect our health can be modified by actions realized out of the health sector, integrating policies worked by the government in different sectors (housing, transport, employment, environment, education, economy, etc). This strategy has turned into one of the principal axes of action and public health research which aim is to influence the social determinants of the health for the improvement and protection of the health. The aim of this paper is to define of what this strategy consists and to present the most relevant experiences that have been implemented in recent years, analyzing the contributions of the most significant cases: Sweden, Finland and South Australia. As stated in the Declaration of Adelaide this strategy highlights the need for a new social contract to advance in human development and equity for which a new form of governance that includes all sectors, levels of government and citizen participation is required.
