COMET NUCLEI AND TROJAN ASTEROIDS - A NEW LINK AND A POSSIBLE MECHANISM FOR COMET SPLITTINGS

摘要
New evidence indicates that comet nuclei and Trojan asteroids both have an incidence of high amplitude lightcurves larger than that of main belt asteroids of similar sizes, apparently indicating relatively elongated shapes. Elongated shapes may have evolved among comet nuclei and Trojans due to volatile loss; this hypothesis may explain observed comet splitting. © 1990.
