THERMALLY ACTIVATED GROWTH OF SLIP BANDS IN CU-30-PERCENT ZN SINGLE-CRYSTALS

From microcinematographic measurements of slip band growth during deformation of quenched and annealed Cu30%Zn single crystals the velocity of dislocation groups is determined directly at different deformation rates and temperatures. The thermal activation analysis is consistent with results from macroscopic stress relaxation measurements and yields a negative activation entropy in the case of the quenched alloy at room temperature. This is interpreted by atomic ordering rearrangements in the dislocation core region supporting observations during stress relaxation and former calorimetric measurements on deformed crystals. © 1979.
