HIGH-FREQUENCY DIELECTRIC-RELAXATION OF A FERROELECTRIC LIQUID-CRYSTAL

摘要
Dielectric relaxation measurements on a optically active thiadiazole derivative in the frequency range from 1 MHz to 1 GHz gave relaxation frequencies between 100 MHz and 1 GHz in the smectic C* phase. This relaxation which is related to molecular reorientation processes around the long molecular axis is connected with a mean activation energy of 57 kJmol-1. A simple model of the energetic behaviour of this reorientation including the production of the spontaneous polarization is discussed.
