EFFECTS OF MAGNETIC AND STRESS ANNEALING ON THE CHANGE IN MAGNETOSTRICTION FOR MAGNETICALLY SOFT AMORPHOUS-ALLOYS

Changes in magnetostriction (lambda(s)) of amorphous alloy (Fe0.1Co0.5Ni0.4)78Si6B16 annealed under different conditions have been investigated. Five kinds of annealing treatment have been performed. The results show that the lambda(s) of all samples start to change at annealing temperature T(a) = 150-degrees-C, the DELTAlambda(s) increases with increasing T(a) and the rate of change in lambda(s) is different for the above mentioned five annealing conditions. The rate of change in lambda(s) with annealing temperature can be reduced by applying a stress or magnetic field. This new phenomenon reveals that there is interference between the ordinary structural relaxation and the formation of directional short range order in the amorphous alloys.
