A NEW POSSIBILITY OF DETECTING LIGHTWAVE SIGNALS THROUGH IMPATT OSCILLATORS

摘要
Instead of using a photodetector for the conversion of an optical signal to an electrical signal, a novel, yet simple, scheme for detecting intensity-modulated lightwave signals in subcarrier multiplex systems with the help of IMPATT diode oscillators has been proposed. The proposed discriminator is seen to exhibit fairly linear characteristics over a moderate band of frequencies. A method for extending the bandwidth, without sacrificing the linearity of the system, has also been suggested. Basic parameters of the proposed system agree closely with the available experimental results. © 1990 IEEE
