Complicated healing in hand surgery. Possibilities and limits of BGSW

A statistical study is presented of 164 patients treated in the year 2004 for injuries of the hand following accidents at work, who underwent a special combination of physiotherapy and ergotherapy (called BGSW) as inpatients after the initial operative treatment. The aims and indications for this physical treatment are highlighted, as well as its efficiency and duration. In addition, four case studies are presented to illustrate the complex hand injuries that can be treated and the complicated and prolonged healing processes that are sometimes encountered. A successful outcome of the medical treatment was achieved in three of these cases, and not achieved in one case.
