Computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) is an important cornerstone of world class manufacturing. A key to CIM's success is reliable information. CIM requires a responsive and reliable computer system to create the ease of communication between highly specialized functions or departments. Information systems have a tremendous opportunity to be a significant partner in CIM development. The vital role that information system could play is readily apparent in CIM enhancing technologies such as EDI, EDM, and MAP. To achieve desirable benefits, information system partnership in CIM planning process is required.
