RAPID SOLIDIFICATION OF AL-CR-ZR-MN ALLOYS

摘要
The suppression of the Al11Cr2 and Al13Cr2 intermetallics in A15.1Cr-1.4Zr-1.5Mn (alloy A) and Al-3.3Cr-0.7Zr-0.7Mn (alloy B) has been studied by chill casting in cylindrical and wedge-shaped moulds. In alloy A the former phase is suppressed at approximately 500 K s-1 and the latter at approximately 10(4) K s-1. In alloy B the alpha-Al cellular structure free of the Al13Cr2 intermetallics is formed at cooling rates of 5 x 10(2) K s-1 to 2 x 10(3) K s-1 and shows an age hardening response reaching the peak hardness of 1500 MPa after 25 h at 400-degrees-C. The solid solution strengthening contribution of chromium, zirconium and manganese in alloy B is 536 MPa and the precipitate contribution of the metastable Ll2 Al3Zr phase at the peak aged condition is 571 MPa.
