ELECTRON-IMPACT EXCITATION OF ATOMIC-HYDROGEN INTO HIGHLY EXCITED-STATES

摘要
The differential and total cross sections for the reaction e−+H(1s)→e−+H(ns), n=2, 3, 4, ···∝ are obtained in the first Born approximation. Exchange is taken care of by the i) Born-Oppenheimer, ii) Ochkur and iii) First order exchange approximations. Polarization effect arising from the distortion of the target atom by the incoming particle is introduced by the addition of a term Φpole to the usual ground state wave function. The exchange scattering amplitude containing the repulsive part of the interacting potential has been reduced to a simple one dimensional integral. The effect of polarization enhance the differential cross section in the forward direction. For small angle scattering the angular distributions in various approximations are similar but at large angles they deviate from one another. © 1979, THE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN.
