How lonely are the Internet Users?

摘要
Objectives: To find out the prevalence of internet addiction and loneliness and the relationship between internet addiction and loneliness among students of Wah Medical College. Methodology: A Correlational study was carried out on students of Wah Medical College. Sample size of 250 was calculated by using WHO sample size calculator with a population prevalence of 7.9%. Sample was selected by using simple random sampling technique. The questionnaires were distributed to the students to be filled by them. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 21. Results: Out of 250, 177(70.8%) students had no internet addiction, 67(26.8%) had moderate internet addiction and 6(2.4%) had severe addiction. 121(48.4%) had loneliness while 129(51.6%) students had no loneliness. There was a positive correlation between internet addiction and loneliness with rs= 0.182 and p value of 0.046. Conclusion: Moderate internet addiction was found in our subjects and was positively correlated with loneliness.
