:
Van Hove's overlap function is studied in many-body Schrödinger theory. A formula relating the overlap function at large impact parameter to the two-body forces is established. within lowest order in these forces. The shape of the diffraction peak as a function of the forces is discussed. The inverse problem of determining the forces from the overlap function is solved. The limiting form of the overlap function for small impact parameters is determined. A simple expression for this limit is obtained when the forces are short range. © 1968.
