DETERMINATION OF AIRBORNE POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC-HYDROCARBONS USING A FILTER ADSORBER COMBINATION

摘要
In this paper a new sampling procedure for the determination of airborne PAHs (four to seven rings, unsubstituted) is described. Sample collection is by high-volume sampling (30 m3h-1) using a combination of a Teflon filter for particulate matter and polyurethane foam (PUF) for gaseous compounds. Concurrent chemical analysis of both the particulate and the vapour phases is performed by high resolution gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (HRGC/FID). Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon concentrations determined in field sampling experiments in Jülich ranged from 0.1 to 10 ng m-3, the vapour phase containing PAHs with molecular weights of up to 228 (e.g. benz[a]anthracene and chrysene) in substantial amounts. © 1990.
