4 experiments compared the performance of Ss exposed to cold (35- F) at various times before, during, or after training on a T-maze position habit with the performance of Ss exposed to a warm temperature (75- F) at the same time. Cold during retention intervals facilitated retention in larvae. In adult beetles, cold during the retention interval facilitated retention after 1, 5, and 10 days, but not after 2 days. Cold acclimation prior to training and cold between training sessions sped acquisition and raised the level of asymptotic performance in adults.
