A SIMPLIFIED QUANTITATIVE APPROACH TO THE ISOTHERMAL HYSTERESIS IN METALLIC HYDRIDES WITH COHERENT INTERPHASES

摘要
The hysteresis in metallic hydrides is explained as caused by the self-stress created by the positive volume change in the intermediate coherent region of the alpha and beta phases. This stress has been calculated from the equation characterizing the initial state of a flat plate. On the basis of experimental hysteresis in palladium and nickel hydrides the effective concentration differences were calculated to be in the range of the saturated alpha phases of both hydrides.
