MICROSTRUCTURE OF NB2AL-NBAL3 EUTECTIC ALLOYS PRODUCED BY UNIDIRECTIONAL SOLIDIFICATION

摘要
The microstructure and deformation behavior of unidirectionally solidified Nb2Al-NbAl3 eutectic alloys were investigated. At a solidification velocity of 1 mm h-1, long NbAl3 fibers parallel to the solidification direction grew in the Nb2Al matrix. Transmission electron microscopy showed that the growth directions of the eutectic intermetallics were [001] for both Nb2Al and NbAl3. Although no apparent preferred interface plane was observed, two types of orientation relationships between Nb2Al and NbAl3 were found: {110} NbAl3 parallel-to {100} Nb2Al or {100} NbAl3 parallel-to {100} Nb2Al. This composite exhibits high compression strength at high temperatures.
