EFFECTS OF HYDRATION OF COATED VANADIUM MAGNESIUM CATALYST ON THE KINETICS OF OXIDATIVE DEHYDROGENATION OF BUTENES

The effects of hydration of the surface of a vanadium/magnesium catalyst by water vapor on the catalytic activity in both the steady state and nonstationary kinetics of different stages in the oxidative dehydrogenation of butenes have been investigated. It has been shown that hydration of the catalyst surface increases its activity under steady-state conditions without altering its selectivity toward butadiene formation and lowers the stability of hydrocarbon adsorption. A study of the effect of hydration on the nonstationary kinetics of the different stages showed that surface hydration of a vanadium/magnesium catalyst increased its activity in the oxidation of but-1-ene, cis-but-2-ene, and butadiene and increases the fraction of partial oxidation of but-2-enes (especially trans-but-2-ene) without altering its activity in the oxidation of trans-but-2-ene and reoxidation.
