Bioethical issues on modafinil

This article deals with the topic of cognitive enhancement throughout the eugeroic modafinil - a beneficial stimulant-, which increases wakefulness. Modafinil has been considered the first drug labeled as nootropic. First, the article outlines a review of the state of the art within experimental research on modafinil. Secondly, it tackles issues such as the prevalence of social use and the public perception of this drug. Finally, it focuses on and debates arguments that arise from posthumanistic bioethics. According to this position it is necessary an enhancement medicine, which leaves room for the regulation of modafinil.
