摘要
The vapour-phase condensation of propionic acid with formaldehyde was performed using methylal as the source of formaldehyde. The main products were methyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid. Vanadium-silicon-phosphorus oxide with an atomic ratio of 1:8:2.8 showed a better catalytic performance than vanadium-phosphorus oxide with an atomic ratio of 1:1.06. The one-pass yield of methyl methacrylate plus methacrylic acid, based on the methylal charged, was 53 mol-% with a propionic acid-to-methylal molar ratio of 2, and reached 70 mol-% with a propionic acid-to-methylal molar ratio of 5.2. The effects of reaction variables such as temperature, concentration of propionic acid and water vapour on the yield and selectivity were studied. © 1990.
