EVIDENCE FOR A KINEMATIC THRESHOLD IN THE FORMATION OF HE+ IONS IN GRAZING SCATTERING FROM AN AL(111) SURFACE

摘要
The charge state distributions of scattered projectiles is investigated after the interaction of He+ ions with energies ranging from 3 to 28 keV with a clean and flat Al(111)-surface under a grazing angle of incidence. We find in the experiments a kinematic threshold for the positive ion fraction as predicted from the model of a kinematically induced Auger ionization mechanism.
