PREDICTING VENEER GRADE YIELDS FOR LOBLOLLY AND SLASH PINE TREES

Veneer yields are presented for 117 loblolly and 73 slash pine trees sampled at 5 locations and processed at 3 mills. Fifty-four percent of loblolly, and 55 percent of slash pine, merchantable stem volume was processed into usable veneer. Tables developed from regression equations give dry veneer grade-yields in square feet, 3/8-inch basis, for individual trees ranging from 10 to 24 inches diam breast height and from 18 to 79 feet in merchantable height.
