The Russian-Spanish relations during the First World War

The article deals with a little-studied period in the history of the Russian-Spanish relations - the First World War period. It concerns diplomatic relations between neutral Spain and belligerent Russia on the eve of the conflict and during it up to their rupture in 1918, shows the change of ambassadors and diplomats. Some episodes of relations between our countries have been reconstructed on the basis of archival documents: the Spanish aid to the Russian prisoners of war and Alfonso XIII efforts to rescue Nicholas II and his family, the detention of Leon Trotsky in Spain and trade frauds with the Russian fish scales, success of Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes beyond the Pyrenees and influence of the Russian revolution on Spain.
