摘要
The majority of nursing home patients in the United States have dementia or behavioral problems yet the outcome of care they receive for those disorders is unknown. We compared the outcomes of Alzheimer's disease patients residing on a dementia unit with other Alzheimer's patients in the same nursing home over a one‐year period. We found that the functional capacity of dementia unit patients remained stable over the study period while that of non‐unit patients declined. This study suggests the usefulness of dementia units in nursing homes and raises issues relevant to their future study. Copyright © 1990 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
