摘要：

The rapid progress in microprocessor and communication technologies over the last ten years has provided great potential for innovative applications in the field of protection and substation control. A survey is presented of the current trends in needs and opportunities in this broad area of power system reliability. Some recent developments are reviewed and the major problems still to be overcome are defined.
