摘要
Deterioration of language during normal aging has been reported by several authors and has been compared with certain aphasic disorders. This paper examines the utility of the Bilingual Aphasia Test (BAT) for assessing the effect of age on the capacities of bilingual elderly people at various linguistic levels and skills with a view to determining whether the deterioration affects both languages in the same way. Our study confirms BAT as a suitable tool for assessment of bilingualism in the elderly. Results on bilingual elderly subjects speaking Galician and Spanish show that deterioration affects both languages, and support a non-modular explanation of language decline in the elderly.
