摘要
Fretting is a major problem with titanium alloy aerospace components. A fretting apparatus was designed to generate low amplitude motions for testing of various flat and cylindrical geometries. Using it, ion-implanted coupons of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-Al alloys were compared for fretting performance against untreated specimens. Surface profilometry was used as the primary method of analytical evaluation. The ion implantation treatment provided significant improvements in fretting reduction.
