The electron-spin resonance (ESR) of an insulating copper oxide: La4Ba2Cu2O10 which shows a ferromagnetic transition at around 5 K has been studied. The ESR spectra show a narrowing with decreasing temperature which is characteristic of the ferromagnetic exchange interaction. The g tensor is uniaxial and the principal values are g perpendicular-to = 2.123 and g parallel-to = 2.037. The exchange coupling between dissimilar Cu2+ ions in the unit cell explains the features of the ESR spectra of this material and the Cu2+ d-holes are in the dx2-y2-like orbits in the ground state.
