Leadership is a practiced art that requires a commitment to continuous learning, use of knowledge and experiences to shape the journey to mastery, and ownership of change that will benefit the greater good. This issue of Nurse Leader describes the leadership journey to implement the recommendations from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report on the future of nursing released in October 2010.(1) This landmark study is a blueprint for the transformation of nursing as a strategic prerequisite for improving the nation's healthcare system and healthcare for all Americans.
