摘要
Needles from Norway spruces (Picea abies Karst.) with symptoms of Mg- or K-deficiency were investigated anatomically. Besides pronounced changes in the structure of the chloroplasts and partial accumulation of starch in the mesophyll cells, premature necrosis and collapse of the sieve cells in the vascular bundles was the most pronounced structural symptom. The same pattern of development was found in yellow needles of mature trees in the field with symptoms of 'new-type forest decline' as in needles from young trees grown in quartz-sand culture with controlled induction of deficiencies. The possible consequences of these structural symptoms for the physiology of trees growing under these deficiencies and their involvement in recent 'forest decline' are discussed.
