Squamous cell carcinoma of the stomach is rare, accounting for less than 1% of all gastric cancers. Its pathogenesis is unclear and numerous histogenetic hypothesis were proposed. Pathological diagnosis rquired strict histological criteria. Prognosis is poor compared with others histological types and particularly with adenocrcinoma. We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma of the stomach occuring in a 67-year-old man. Through this observation, we discuss epidemiological, pathogenetic, clinical, pathological, therapeutic and prognostic features of this rare histological variant of gastric cancer. © 2014, Springer-Verlag France.
