OBSERVATIONS ON THE MYCETOZOAN GENUS CERATIOMYXA - DESCRIPTION OF A NEW SPECIES

Studies in out laboratory on numerous collections of Ceratiomyxa, mostly classifiable as C. fruticulosa, and comparisons of these collections with typical protostelids lend additional support to out earlier decision to transfer the genus from subclass Mysogastria to subclass Protostelia of the Eumycetozoa. The collection in the vicinity of Chapel Hill [North Carolina, USA] of a form of Ceratiomyxa with minute hemispherical and colorless sporogenous mounds, giving rise to sporocarps with unusually long and flexuous stalks bearing globose spores, is described as a new species: C. hemisphaerica.
