EFFECT OF MOLYBDENUM CONTENT ON THE SULFIDE STRESS CRACKING RESISTANCE OF AISI 4130-TYPE STEEL WITH 0.035-PERCENT CB

摘要
The presence of hydrogen sulfide in the fluids of many oil wells imposes severe restrictions on the useful strength of casing and other oil field steel products because of sulfide stress cracking (SSC). Previous studies proved the beneficial effect of molybdenum addition to SAE 4125-type steel on SSC resistance, especially in the presence of about 0. 035% Cb, but the optimum molybdenum content had not been determined. The purpose of this investigation was to define the effect of molybdenum on yield strength and SSC resistance in the range 0 to 2. 5% Mo in this type of steel and to similarly determine the effects of small additions of vanadium.
