摘要
The impulse-breakdown characteristics of a square rod-to-plane gap were investigated at very large electrode-separations (30 to 50 cm) in compressed air. Breakdown-voltage/pressure curves exhibit regions of negative slope, particularly with a negative polarity in the pressure range 0. 3 to 0. 5 MN/m**2. The positive-polarity breakdown voltage is nearly constant and independent of pressure above 0. 2 MN/m**2. Above 0. 2 MN/m**2, with positive polarity, a peculiar long corona starts from above the rod end, and often extends itself to the more distant vessel wall.
