Religion and health: an evangelic contribution

This paper reviews some recent researches about the relation between religion and health, thinking the health care problem throughout the concept of quality of life. It tries to correlate the contribution of theological thought to develop a religious praxis that brings benefits to health, emphasizing the living of faith, hope and love. Thru the rescue of the humanist perspective of evangelical churches, this work analyses how these institutions' practices contribute to improve quality of life. It problematizes the emphasis given by some churches' segments in needing to avoid potentially harmful health behavior, and in doing things that contribute to prosper quality of life, proposing the development of a theology based on diaconal service. It concludes that the critic of ecclesial practice is a theological task, and that the dialogue between theology and the health sciences is indispensable to improve the quality of people's life.
