摘要
The safe and reliable operation of PWR pressure vessels demands a rigorous understanding of component materials properties throughout service life. This paper reviews the current data available for thermal ageing of both representative pressure vessel steels (plate, weld, heat affected zone (HAZ)), and simulated HAZ and laboratory produced model alloys. The effects of microstructure and impurity segregation on the embrittling response of a material are discussed and the accuracy of modelling the segregation of phosphorus, using the thermodynamic and kinetic formulations of McLean, is investigated. The critical areas of thermal degradation and the uncertainties involved in predicting the effects of long term ageing are identified.
