Animal energy, which is readily available and is within the economic and technological reach of the farmer, has not been fully exploited. Bullock cart still remains as the means for rural transport in most of the areas in India. Out of 15 million bullock carts about 12 millions are used in rural area. These carts carry 20 billion tonne per kilometre per year (Naik, 1982). Majority of the roads in rural area are kutcha, and are not suitable for various modes of transportation other than the bullock carts.
