RADIO NOISE DUE TO CORONA ON A MULTICONDUCTOR POWER-LINE ABOVE A DISSIPATIVE EARTH

An accurate theory of radio noise has been developed. It exhibits a change in slope of the lateral profile due to earth conduction effects that is consistent with experimental results, and it can be used to show the relationship between rod and loop measurements of noise fields. The theory is compared to existing noise theories both analytically and numerically. It is shown to be valid for conductor spacings of up to one-eighth of a wavelength and measurement points of up to one-third of a wavelength from the line. The validity of other theories is shown to be more restricted.
