COMPETITION IN THE CHEMOSTAT - GLOBAL ASYMPTOTIC-BEHAVIOR OF A MODEL WITH DELAYED-RESPONSE IN GROWTH

摘要
The asymptotic behavior of solutions of a model for competition between two microorganisms in the chemostat is studied. The model incorporates time delays that allow for the cellular components of each competing species to be structured to include unassimilated or ''stored'' nutrient. Sufficient conditions on the parameters of the model that guarantee (i) competitive exclusion and (ii) persistence of at least one of the competing organisms are determined. The results extend earlier results on the corresponding model for a single species and also extend these to include competition.
