KINETICS OF REACTION OF IODIDE ION OXIDATION WITH VANADIUM(5) IN SULPHURIC ACID MEDIUM

摘要
It is shown that the oxidation of iodide with vanadium(V) in sulphuric acid medium and in an atmosphere of nitrogen preceeds according to the kinetic equation: d[I2] dt = (k′[H+] + k″[H+]2) [V(V)]. [I-], where k′ = (1·6 ± 0·1) 10-2 I-2. mole-2 sec-1 and k″ = (8·31 ± 0·05) 10-2I3. mole-3 sec-1 for 20°C and 1 mole (Na)HSO4. The temperature dependence of k″ has shown ΔEa = 11·7 kcal/mole and ΔSa293 = - 12·5 e.u. A mechanism is proposed including as rate determining stage the reorganization of the initial complex between vanadium(V) and iodide. © 1969.
