EXCITONS AND POLARITONS IN SEMICONDUCTOR INSULATOR QUANTUM WELLS AND SUPERLATTICES

摘要
Schemes for increasing the binding energies of Wannier-Mott excitons in semiconductor/insulator quantum wells and superlattices are proposed. Due to the total confinement of excitons in semiconductor layers the propagation of polaritons across the superlattice is only possible because of electromagnetic transfer of excitation through insulator layers. In that sense they are Wannier-Mott excitons in-plane and Frenkel excitons for transverse motion.
