摘要：
The development of automatic routing methods for circuit-switched traffic is traced. The reasons behind the current high level of interest in dynamic routing techniques are explained, and the two main contending approaches in the North American environment are described and compared (dynamic nonhierarchical routing and dynamically controlled routing). Other approaches to dynamic routing are presented.
