INTENSITIES OF RAMAN BANDS IN BORATE GLASSES

摘要
The relative Raman scattering intensity of alkali borate glasses has been measured. It is found that the boroxol and tetraborate units do not affect each other's cross-sections, although these units form a continuous network in the glasses. The cross-section of boroxol units is close to that of the tetraborate units. It is found that the cross-section of the band due to tetraborate units in the borate glasses is less affected by the kind of alkali oxides than that of the band due to the units including non-bridging oxygens in silicate glasses. This difference is attributed to the different roles of alkali ions in the glass structure.
