INTERCROPPING STUDIES IN PIGEONPEA UNDER RAIN-FED CONDITIONS

A study made on intercropping in pigeonpea for 3 years (1985-88) showed the reduction in pigeonpea yield in general when intercropped with legumes and cereals. The yield reduction was highest with sorghum and lowest with sesame. However, when total production was considered, the pigeonpea + blackgram recorded highest pigeonpea equivalent, followed by pigeonpea + greengram and pigeonpea + sesame. The highest cost benefit ratio and net return was accrued by pigeonpea + blackgram.
