CONJECTURE CONCERNING THE FRACTIONAL HALL HIERARCHY

摘要
We present numerical evidence in support of a conjecture concerning the hierarchy of incompressible states that are responsible for the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE). We propose that for filling factors in the range 1/3 2) / 3, the FQHE occurs only when =n=n/(2n+1) (or when =1-n) and at no other fractional filling factors with odd denominators. If correct, this conjecture would imply that important qualitative features of the hierarchy physics of the FQHE are not understood. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
