The Standard Leaching Test (SLT) is drafted in order to make an estimate of the metal emission from metal contaminated waste-materials. A modification of SLT is developed and tested for research of the leaching behaviour of hydrophobic organic compounds. It encompasses the leaching procedure, treatment and enrichment of the percolate fractions. A cartridge sampling technique is described for the collection of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) from the percolates. The modified SLT is applied successfully on two environmental samples, polluted with PAH. Data from the SLT are used to classify waste materials according to Dutch governmental regulations dealing with re-use and landfilling.
