The magnetic moment of the deuteron due to the exchange of two bosons (π, ρ{variant}, ω) and including N and Δ(1236) intermediate states is calculated in a model with pseudovector πN coupling. Matrix elements of two-boson exchange operators are calculated in the nonrelativistic limit. The effect of variations of the πNN and ρ{variant}NN vertex functions is investigated. Good agreement with the experimental magnetic moment of the deuteron with a D-state probability PD = (6.46 ± 0.29)% is found if relativistic corrections, and one- and two-boson exchange effects are taken into account. It is also shown that the coupled channel approach is inadequate to derive properties of isobaric configurations in the deuteron. © 1979.
