摘要
The magnetostriction of single-crystal NdAl2 has been measured in fields up to 18 T along the easy (001) and hard (111) directions as a function of temperature. The measured strains can be explained by a single-ion Hamiltonian. The second-order magnetoelastic coefficients are found to be M 2gamma=-31.7K ion-1 and M2 epsilon=65.1+or-7.5K ion-1. The ratio of these terms can be understood when the dominant interaction is between the 4f electrons and the surrounding lattice charge distribution.
