METASOMATIC REPLACEMENT IN THE SKAERGAARD INTRUSION, EAST GREENLAND - PRELIMINARY-OBSERVATIONS

Several unusual types of replacement structures in the Layered Series and Marginal Border Series of the Skaergaard Intrusion indicate that metasomatic changes have altered the modal proportions, and in places, the mineral composition of the gabbro. The geometrical forms and compositional patterns of these features indicate that they result from reactive fluids moving through the rocks at high temperatures shortly after the magma had reached an advanced stage of crystallization. The principal effect of metasomatism has been to produce strongly contrasting mafic and felsic rocks. © 1990.
